Secretary of DILG Speaks Ahead of Possible Arrest of Flood Control Suspects
DILG – Department of Interior and Local Government chief Jonvic Remulla spoke on the detention cell for the flood control suspects who will be arrested.
Countless Filipinos were angered by the flood control issue in the Philippines. Several senators and congressmen are accused of involvement in the supposed multi-billion flood control scam. The issue brought thousands of Filipinos in the streets last September 21 to protest against corruption. The event was called the “Trillion Peso March”.

Currently, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI is conducting an investigation on the flood control issue in the country. The commission was created upon the order of President Bongbong Marcos. It is lead by former Supreme Court Justice Andres B. Reyes Jr. Malacañang previously stressed that Marcos Jr. will not intervene in the investigation.

Amid the flood control issue, Ombudsman Boying Remulla also assured that even the relatives of Marcos Jr. will be prosecuted if there is an evidence of flood control corruption. The country’s chief graft-buster also promised to speed up the legal process with regards to the issue.
According to the Ombudsman, the accused in the flood control cases who want to make a plea-bargaining should return the loot first. Remulla claimed that a former congressman of Quezon City also allegedly wants to make a “tell all” over the issue. He stressed that his office is studying the measures for restitution for those who want to cooperate in the investigation.

Recently, amid the ongoing flood control investigation in the country, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla spoke on the detention cell for the suspects of the flood control mess who may be arrested. Based on a report on Inquirer, Remulla revealed that those who have a Salary Grade 26 and below will be held in the Pasay City Jail.
The DILG Chief recently inspected the Pasay City Jail. According to him, the flood control suspects will be placed in common cells which have no air conditioning units.
“I gave strict instructions that no one is allowed to place an inmate in the warden’s office, so they will be in the common cells… There is no longer a La Cathedral, no place for rich people to live inside the prison,” Remulla said.

Based on the report, DILG Chief Jonvic Remulla also stressed that “the law is the law, and we will follow it no matter how painful it gets for anyone”. With regards to the higher-ranking officials who are allegedly involved in the flood control projects are eyed to be held at the newly built Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory.
Amid the investigation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, Malacañang claimed that the ICI flood control probe is allegedly doing well and Marcos Jr. is satisfied with it.
