Bongbong Marcos Visits Davao Oriental after October 10 Twin Quakes

Pres. Bongbong Marcos Currently in Davao Oriental To Assess Situation

BONGBONG MARCOS – The President visited the province of Davao Oriental following the twin quakes that jolted it last October 10.

Recently, a series of high-magnitude earthquakes jolted the Philippines with the epicenter located in different areas across the nation. In Davao Oriental, two (2) strong quakes jolted the province last October 10.

Davao Oriental strong earthquake-

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Davao Oriental last October 10. It triggered a tsunami warning and the people residing in the coastal areas of the province and the neighboring provinces were advised to evacuate.

Following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that occured during the day, Davao Oriental was once again jolted by a strong quake with a magnitude of 6.9 on the eve of October 10. There were aftershocks that occured in between but Phivolcs clarified that the two high-magnitude quakes are “twin quakes”.

Immediately after the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that hit Davao Oriental, Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured that the government is “ensuring that everyone is safe”. The Chief Executive also assured that the government was assessing the ground situation and search, rescue, and relief operations will come as soon as the area is safe for their conduct.

Today, Marcos Jr. arrived in Davao Oriental to assess the situation after the province was hit by twin quakes last October 10. Based on a post of SunStar Davao on social media, the President’s first stop was at the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Manay, the center of the quake.

Based on the post, Marcos Jr. was welcomed by the local and regional officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), the Department of Health (DOH), and the provincial government.

Following the strong shaking, a DPWH official in Davao Oriental expressed concern during the 7.4 magnitude earthquake.
