Marcos Jr. Speaks on Davao Oriental Earthquake amid Massive Damages in Province
DAVAO ORIENTAL EARTHQUAKE – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued a statement following the 7.4 magnitude quake that jolted the province.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake that was later on reduced to 7.4 magnitude struck Davao Oriental early today, October 10, 2025. The quake triggered a tsunami warning. According to the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs), the epicenter of the quake was located off the coast in Manay.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs stated that the epicenter of the Davao Oriental earthquake was located at 7.07°North, 127.06°East off shore Manay. It had a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake-recording bureau advised the residents of the coastal areas in the province as well as in Davao de Oro, Surigao del Sur, and other nearby provinces to move immediately to higher grounds or move father inland.

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake brought countless people running out from their homes, school premises, and medical facilities for safety. The students at Matiao National High School in Mati City were among those that immediately implemented the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” protocol and guided the students to the evacuation areas.
Reportedly, a 5.8 magnitude Davao Oriental earthquake hit at 11:32 in the morning which is regarded as an aftershock of the earlier quake. Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos spoke on the latest calamity that hit a part of the country.

Based on a report on GMA News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said the government is now ensuring the safety of everyone following the 7.4 Davao Oriental earthquake. According to him, the authorities are now checking the situation.
“We are now assessing the situation on the ground and ensuring that everyone is safe,” he said.
The President further expressed that the government is working “round the clock” to make sure that the help reaches all the people who need it. He encouraged the Filipinos to continue looking out for one another and pray for the safety of all our countrymen.
Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos has already ordered the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council or NDRRMC, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and all concerned agencies to conduct evacuations in coastal areas. He assured that search, rescue, and relief operations are already being prepared now.
The recent Davao Oriental earthquake is another calamity that follows the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu last September 30.
