Pres. Marcos Appoints DOJ Chief Boying Remulla as New Ombudsman
BOYING REMULLA – The Justice Secretary is the new ombudsman appointed by Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as announced by the Palace.
The position of Ombudsman was vacant since former Ombudsman Samuel Martires retired in July. According to the Judiciary and Bar Council or JBC, 17 individuals including Department of Justice Chief Remulla applied for the position.

Remulla believes that he allegedly has a lot to offer if he will be appointed as Ombudsman. It was in July when he confirmed the submission of his application and he also confirmed that he has told Pres. Bongbong Marcos about it. The Chief Executive will choose from the shortlist submitted by the JBC on who will be the next Ombudsman.

Out of 17 applicants, seven (7) of them made it to the shortlist submitted by the Judiciary and Bar Council to Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Justice Sec. Boying Remulla was one of those who made it to the shortlist.

- Former Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Stephen Cruz
- SC Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan
- Office of the President Deputy Executive Sec. for Legal Affairs Anna Logan

- Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Lopez
- Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Michael Frederick Musngi

The JBC conducts voting before submitting a shortlist to the President. DOJ Chief Boying Remulla made it to the shortlist for Ombudsman applicants submitted to Marcos Jr. with 5 votes:
- Philippine Competition Commission chairperson Michael Aguinaldo – 6 votes
- Former Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Stephen Cruz – 4 votes
- SC Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan – 5 votes
- Office of the President Deputy Executive Sec. for Legal Affairs Anna Logan – 5 votes
- Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla – 5 votes
- Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Lopez – 4 votes
- Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Michael Frederick Musngi – 4 votes

Recently, Malacañang revealed the decision of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the position of Ombudsman. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Chief Executive appointed Justice Sec. Boying Remulla as the next Ombudsman.
“As Ombudsman, Remulla is expected to uphold transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and ensure that justice is administered fairly and efficiently. There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses. Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable,” Malacañang said.

Contrary to the stand of the President, his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, previously claimed that she will stand against the appointment of Remulla for Ombudsman.
