Former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano Reacts To Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s “Snap Elections” Proposal
LINO CAYETANO – The former Taguig Mayor dared his brother, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, to be the first to resign amid his snap election proposal.
Amid several government officials being linked to the flood control mess, thousands of Filipinos joined the street rallies tagged as “Trillion Peso Protest” to call for an end to corruption in the country. The said protest was held last September 21.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had a change of leaderships amid the flood control mess in the Philippines. Aside from the P30-million campaign donation from a contractor issue, Sen. Chiz Escudero is also accused of allegedly receiving a P160-million kickback from the flood control projects by a former undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Roberto Bernardo.

Aside from Escudero, senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva are also accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects. The Senate had a shakeup amid the issue. Most of the Duterte bloc members are now part of the Minority bloc which is led by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano recently proposed a “snap election” to give the Filipino people a clean slate to start with. His proposal covers the president, the vice president, and the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. He stressed that there is allegedly a decline of confidence in the government now amid the multi-billion flood control issue.
Recently, his younger brother, former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano who has also served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2016 expressed support on the “snap election” proposal of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. However, he also dared his brother to be the first to resign.

“Give up power. And this movement for real transformation will be a legacy our Father will be truly proud of… If you truly believe what you say then trust and have faith that if some of the old guard step down now – it will inspire others to follow,” he said.
In his post, former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano also expressed his support that no Cayetano will run in the 2028 polls. According to him, his brother’s proposal will show the world that this generation of Filipino leaders is willing to sacrifice and step aside for the next generation.
“With the Presidents support and as caretaker of the idea it can work – BUT It starts with one. Be that one Sen Alan and you will be remembered by all sides as someone who layed the groundwork for real change. Pakita natino na hindi ito gimmick na konektado nanaman sa politika ng Senado at rigodon ng mga politiko,” the younger Cayetano said.
Amid the proposal, the Commission on Elections or Comelec also spoke on the “snap elections” proposal of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.
