How Nadine Lustre Prepared for Her Role in ‘Call Me Mother’

Nadine Lustre Reveals the Biggest Challenge of Playing a Beauty Queen in ‘Call Me Mother’

NADINE LUSTRE – Actress Nadine Lustre is stepping into the dazzling world of pageantry as she takes on the role of a beauty queen in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Call Me Mother.

Nadine Lustre is set to portray a beauty queen in the much-anticipated Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, Call Me Mother. In a recent interview on TFC’s Are You G?, Nadine shared that she went through intensive preparation for the role, which included actual pageant training.

“I’ve done a lot of research when it comes to being a beauty queen. Research and I’ve done a few days of training, because my character in the film is a beauty queen and it’s very important for me to know about the industry and about my character as well,” she revealed.

To fully embody her character, the actress also committed to a strict fitness regimen. “A lot of preparations too when it comes to fitness because eventually, you know, in the film I would have scenes wherein I am actually competing,” she said.

Nadine admitted that one of the biggest hurdles was adapting the posture and grace expected of a pageant queen. “I would say the trickiest part of my role is that every time I’m on set or every time we’re filming or shooting a scene, my posture needs to be different, and the thing is I’m used to… I’m hunched all the time. But in the movie, I have to be upright and beauty queen posture, so it’s kind of tricky. It’s very challenging because I always have to remember,” she explained.

Back in August, her talent agency Viva Artists Agency gave fans a glimpse of her training sessions, hinting at how seriously she was preparing for the part.

Call Me Mother also marks a special reunion for Nadine and Vice Ganda, who last worked together in the 2015 MMFF hit Beauty and the Bestie. On It’s Showtime, Nadine expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m so, so excited na makatrabaho ka ulit after 10 years. I already know that this reunion will be very, very special.”

The film is produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc., The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Communications Inc., with a story written by Daisy G. Cayanan, Daniel S. Saniana, and Jun Robles Lana. Its heartwarming yet comedic plot follows Twinkle, a flamboyant single queer mother fighting to prove her devotion to her adoptive son amid unexpected challenges.
