“Gandahan niyo yung memes ko”: Sarah Discaya’s Joke Sparks DOJ Criticism
SARAH DISCAYA – A lighthearted gesture has stirred heavy backlash, as the Department of Justice branded Sarah Discaya’s finger heart a “sign of insincerity” amid allegations tied to multi-billion-peso flood control projects.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has called out contractor Sarah Discaya for her conduct during a recent visit to its headquarters, saying her gestures and statements reflected “a sign of insincerity and complacency” amid the serious allegations she is facing.
Discaya, who previously ran for mayor of Pasig City but lost in the May elections, arrived at the DOJ on Saturday with her husband, Pacifico, also known as “Curlee,” to submit additional evidence for the case buildup involving lawmakers and other personalities linked to questionable flood control projects.

Upon entering the DOJ premises, Discaya flashed a finger heart gesture when reporters asked how she was doing. Later, after spending more than three hours inside, she quipped to ABS-CBN News: “Gandahan niyo yung memes ko” (make good memes about me).
Her behavior drew criticism from the DOJ. In an official statement, Justice Spokesperson Mico Clavano stressed that such actions will not be ignored in the department’s evaluation.
“The heart sign and the remarks of Ms. Sarah Discaya are all taken into account in the assessment and evaluation of the persons involved,” Clavano said. “It is a sign of insincerity and complacency. We urge all persons of interest in this case to behave accordingly.”
The DOJ is currently assessing whether the Discayas may qualify for the Witness Protection Program, which could shield them in exchange for crucial testimony.

The couple has been under intense public scrutiny due to the scale of government projects awarded to their firms. Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who also chairs the Blue Ribbon Committee, revealed that the Discayas’ nine companies collectively secured P207.25 billion worth of infrastructure projects between 2016 and 2025, citing data from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
With the investigation still underway, the DOJ reiterated its call for professionalism and proper conduct from all individuals linked to the probe, emphasizing that actions—even as small as a gesture—can influence the credibility and sincerity of those involved.
