Latest Filing of Duterte’s Camp Offers Proposal to ICC over Interim Release Plea
DUTERTE’S CAMP – The legal team of the former President said they are ready to accept any condition from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his interim release.
The lawyers of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte renewed their appeal for his interim release to an undisclosed country in August. The former Chief Executive is detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands for more than six (6) months now.

Duterte is faced with three (3) counts of murder as “crimes against humanity” filed by the ICC prosecutor. The court issued a redacted briefer on the charges filed against the former President following the postponement of his confirmation of charges hearing. The decision of the court came after Duterte’s lawyer claims that the former President is allegedly “not fit to stand trial”.

According to British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is allegedly unable to recall events, places, and even members of his family. He claimed that this client is supposedly suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’ that will allegedly remain static or deteriorate further even with a medical intervention.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her contacts abroad helped for the interim release plea of her father. The Vice President claimed that a “third country” committed to host the interim release of the former President if the ICC will grant it.

According to Vice Pres. Duterte, the said country is not Japan nor Australia. Duterte’s camp has yet to reveal which nation agreed to host the former President. Amid the plea, his lawyer made another filing before the court.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s camp is ready to accept any condition that the ICC will set over the possible interim release of the former Chief Executive. Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman proposed that they are ready to apply any condition which may include travel restrictions, residence in a third country, and monitoring measures.
The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber is currently in the process of reviewing the request of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s camp. Based on the report, in his latest filing, Kaufman also told the court that the Philippine government has no objection over the interim release of his client.
The British-Israeli Lawyer is seemingly referring to the statement of Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro that the Philippine government will respect whatever the decision of the ICC will be with regards to the interim release plea of Duterte’s camp. Despite the said stance of the Palace, the ICC prosecutor previously insisted that Duterte’s continued decision is allegedly necessary.
