Amid the Flood Control Issue, DPWH Chief Vince Dizon Bares Next Step

DPWH chief Vince Dizon announced that their next target is to return the billions of money corrupted through the flood control projects to the people.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have launched investigations on the anomalous flood control projects funded by the government. President Bongbong Marcos also ordered the creation of an independent commission that will investigate the infrastructure projects in the country.

Amid the issue of flood control corruption, the Department of Public Works and Highways earned massive criticisms. DPWH said it needs the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in inspecting the thousands of flood control projects in the country.

Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos revealed that the country has already spent P545-billion in flood control projects in the country from July 2022 to May 2025. According to the Chief Executive, there are 15 contractors which got around P100 billion from the said total spending. They were invited to the Senate and House hearings:

Amid the issue, DPWH Chief Vince Dizon said he will abolish the internal investigation committee of the agency amid the flood control issue. According to the newly-appointed DPWH Secretary, he does not believe that an agency can investigate itself. Recently, he spoke on the next target of the government amid the flood control mess.

Based on a report on Inquirer, DPWH chief Vince Dizon expressed that the individuals who will be proven involved in the flood control corruption should be held accountable. He stressed that jail punishment is not enough.

“It is not enough to go to jail. It is not enough to be held accountable. We need to return the people’s money,” the DPWH Chief said.

“We are talking about billions of pesos in projects here. We need to return that money—and that is what we will do,” Dizon said.

According to the DPWH Chief, on Monday, he will meet with the officials of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC). Based on the report, they are set to talk about the possible freezing and forfeiture of the assets involved in the anomalous flood control deals. He revealed that they now have the complaint and they can proceed to the AMLC which is their next step on Monday.

Amid the issue, DPWH engineer Henry Alcantara was fired over the ghost project in Bulacan. Currently, several officials of the agency as well as some government officials are faced with accusations over the issue. Actor-turned-politician Arjo Atayde is one of the congressmen accused by the Discayas to have allegedly asked money from their DPWH projects.
