TITO SOTTO – The Senate Minority revealed that he received over P471,000 as his salaries for July and August and he will use it in helping students.
Senate Minority Leader Sotto who recently called for a mandatory drug testing among all the Senate officials and employees confirmed that he is now starting to fulfill one of his campaign promises — that he will use his salaries during his six-year term to help.

Recently, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto confirmed to the reporters through a Viber message that his July and August salaries will be deposited in a bank account to fund the education of scholars. Based on a report on Inquirer, the Senate Minority Leader showed a photo of himself showing a check amounting to more than Php 471,000 which are his salaries for July and August.

“As I promised during the campaign, I will give this to those who need financial assistance, particularly in the field of education, to help students who are struggling in life,” Sotto stated.
According to the office of Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto, the check has been deposited in a bank account that was created for the scholarship program under the Senator’s office. There is “no foundation” as Sotto’s office will directly handle the scholarship applications and grants.

Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto confirmed that his office has already started the screening of the applications of aspiring scholars. So far, 18 applications have been submitted to his office and one of the said applications was already approved. Based on the report, five (5) of the said applicants are undergoing the screening while 12 are in the process of completing their requirements.
Sotto previously vied for the Senate Presidency during the opening of the 20th Congress. However, he lost to Senate President Chiz Escudero with a 19-5 voting. Prior to it, Sotto admitted that he is “too strict” citing that he learned from the “true statesmen”.

The Senate Minority Leader belongs to the so-called “veterans bloc” or “conscience bloc” in the Senate. They vowed to ensure that the upper chamber follows the rules and procedures.
