Statement of PNP Chief To Cops after Saddening Fate of College Student Who Died of Leptospirosis

PNP CHIEF – Philippine National Police Chief Nicolas Torre III told the cops not to forget about humanity which is ‘more than the strict implementation of the law’.

The Chief of the national police who recently earned different remarks for directly saying that drugs cause people to be ugly reacted to the death of a college student who passed away due to leptospirosis. The said student was the son of Jayson Dela Rosa who was detained by the police amid the onslaught of the Southwest monsoon.

Jayson Dela Rosa was arrested by the cops over alleged shoplifting. He was detained at the Caloocan City Police Station 2 until charges over alleged gambling were filed against him after three (3) days. In order for his son to be able to visit him, he wade through floodwaters.

Unfortunately, after several days since that incident of wading through floodwaters, the son of Jayson Dela Rosa died of leptospirosis. Based on a report on Inquirer, Dela Rosa filed charges before the National Police Commission (Napolcom) against three (3) personnel of the Caloocan City Police Station 2 over his detention and the reportedly unrelated cases filed against him.

Recently, PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III, while speaking to the cops, aired a reminded to them that the brain and the heart should work together in the enforcement of the law. His statement came after the death of the college student due to leptospirosis.

Torre was speaking in front of his men in the police field in Camp Crame. Based on the report, the PNP Chief also reminded the cops not to forget about humanity as they strictly enforce the laws.

“My guidance for our people, more than anything else, more than the strict implementation of the law, don’t ever forget our humanity,” Torre expressed.

Based on the report, the Northern Police District (NPD) has already responded to the case of Jayson Dela Rosa whose son died of leptospirosis after wading through floodwaters to be able to visit him during detention. According to NPD director Brigadier General Jerry Protacio, they will conduct an audit of all their detention facilities.

Furthermore, Protacio also confirmed ordering the Caloocan Police’s substations to send their detainees immediately to the city headquarters. The PNP Chief sees no problem with the directive of the NPD Director.
