Pres. Bongbong Marcos Turns SONA 2025 Mood Light w/ Mention of PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III
BONGBONG MARCOS – The Philippine President joked during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2025 calling Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre as the ‘new boxing champ’ of the country.
Pres. Marcos delivered his 4th annual address before the 20th Congress and the Filipino people yesterday at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. Most of the senators and the members of the House of Representatives as well as the Marcos Cabinet attended the event.

During the Marcos SONA 2025, Pres. Bongbong Marcos broke the ice at the event with an unexpected mention of PNP chief Nicolas Torre III with a serious tone. Based on a report of Inquirer, the Chief Executed was talking about sports when he mentioned Torre.

According to the President, there are the “Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to ensure the continued support for the sports programs of our country’s athletes”. He stressed that because of these agencies, the youth is introduced to sports early and acquire skills and confidence.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos continued his statement mentioning the Filipino champions in the different sports who have inspired countless youth. That was when he drew laughter from the audience when he included PNP chief Nicolas Torre as the new boxing champ of the country. The President also chuckled from his joke.
“They follow in the steps of our champions and world-class athletes like (former senator) Manny Pacquiao, Hidilyn Diaz, Caloy Yulo, Ira Villegas, Nesthy Petecio, EJ Obiena, Alex Eala […] let’s include our new champ, PNP chief Nic Torre,” Marcos Jr. said.
PNP chief Nicolas Torre III was also smiling with what Pres. Bongbong Marcos said. Based on the report, he stood to acknowledge the Chief Executive with a box. The President then said the “Chief PNP was surprised”.

PNP chief Nicolas Torre III emerged as the winner in his charity boxing match with acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte. The youngest son of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was no show at the boxing match set at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum as he was in Singapore. Prior to it, the PNP Chief had quick training prior to the match.

Aside from Torre being declared as “winner by default”, the charity boxing match of the PNP Chief and the acting Mayor of Davao City also gathered millions in relief for the victims of the typhoon and the flood. The General previously claimed he just saw the “challenge” of Duterte as an opportunity to be able to help the Filipinos who are in need.
Prior to the SONA, PNP chief Nicolas Torre III also reacted to acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte calling him “monkey”.
