According to PNP chief Nicolas Torre, accepting the “challenge” of Mayor Baste Duterte means “nothing personal” on his part. He claimed that he just saw it as an opportunity to help the victims of the flood and the typhoon that is why he agreed to the challenge and proposed for it to be a charity match as he will give his share to the victims of the typhoon and flood.

However, in his reaction to the PNP Chief accepting his challenge, Davao City acting Mayor Baste Duterte issued his “own conditions”. For the charity boxing match to push through, he wants Torre to ask Pres. Bongbong Marcos to order drug tests among the government officials.

Davao City acting Mayor Baste Duterte also initially raised questions as to why PNP chief Nicolas Torre III wanted their match to be a charity event. He also claimed that he has long wanted to get an edge over a monkey.

“Huwag kang mag-alala Torre kasi matagal ko na talagang gusto maka-bugbog ng unggoy. Kung gusto mo lang talaga ng suntukan, bakit kailangan mo pa ng charity charity. Why do you need, kailang mo pang gamitin yang nangyayari ngayon na baha diyan sa Metro Manila,” the Davao Acting Mayor said.

Recently, PNP chief Nicolas Torre III reacted to Davao City acting Mayor Baste Duterte referring to him as a “monkey”. Based on a post of Inquirer, during a press briefing, the head of the national police stressed that he is a Filipino and there are many Filipinos who have the same skin complexion as his.

“Dahil ba maitim ako? Pare-pareho tayong Pilipino. Marami namang kasing-itim ko na Pilipino. So, lahat kami unggoy?” Torre said.

The PNP Chief stressed that humanity of the Filipinos are being lost with incidents like it. Based on the post, he left a reminder that it is not okay that someone will bully another person because he/she is in the position.

“Hindi porke ikaw ay nasa puder, eh pwede mong gawin ang gusto mong gawin na pambu-bully sa mga mas maliliit sa’yo. Hindi po pwede ‘yan. Okay? So again, we stood up to the bully, the bully ran away,” he said.

The Sunday charity boxing match between Torre and Duterte was pushed through but the latter did not show up as he’s in Singapore for a scheduled travel. The event reportedly gathered millions of money and relief goods for the typhoon and flood victims. Previously, the elder brother of Davao City’s acting mayor, Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte, spoke on the boxing match between Mayor Baste and the PNP Chief.
