Incoming Sen. Ping Lacson Gives Caution to Senator Judges
PING LACSON – The returning Senator left a gentle reminder for the senator judges in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The Senate impeachment court previously ruled to return the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives. It was over the queries about the constitutionality of Duterte’s impeachment. The upper chamber also wants a reconfirmation from the 20th Congress that they will tackle the case.

Amid the allegations that the Senate is allegedly delaying the trial, Sen. JV Ejercito previously blamed the House over the alleged delay in Duterte’s trial. He is one of the senators who voted in favor of the remand of the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives.

Eighteen (18) senator judges voted in favor of the motion to return Duterte’s impeachment to the House. Only five (5) of the senator judges opposed the motion.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously clarified that the return of Duterte’s impeachment has no intention to dismiss the impeachment case against the Vice President. Summons was sent to the Vice President. However, the Senate President also claimed that the Senate impeachment court can allegedly dismiss the case even without a trial.

Previously, incoming Sen. Ping Lacson claimed that the senator judges making a motion to dismiss an impeachment case would be a laughingstock. He stressed that it is also allegedly improper and inappropriate.

Based on a recent report on PhilStar, incoming Sen. Ping Lacson raised a warning to the senator judges that the filing of motions is within the prosecution and the defense teams. He stressed that their job “is to listen to their arguments and counter-arguments and make a ruling”.
“VP Impeachment Jurisdiction: A gentle caution to senator-judges of the impeachment court – we should leave the filing of all motions and pleadings to the prosecution and defense teams,” incoming Sen. Ping Lacson said.
As an incoming senator, Lacson said he would investigate on the budget allotment of P10 billion for a “small town” by the government this 2025.
