Senator-elect Tito Sotto Open To Return as Senate President
TITO SOTTO – Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri claimed that the ‘veteran bloc’ will support the former Senate President for the top post in the upper chamber.
With the opening of the 20th Congress, there are different speculations on who might occupy the top post in the Senate. Presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos previously claimed that some senators want her to be the Senate president. There are also different views on whether or not Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero would be able to keep his seat.

Previously, senator-elect Tito Sotto who admitted that he is open to be the Senate president of the chamber again claimed that there are people who come to him and assured him of their support if he vies for the Senate presidency. Sotto was the chief of the upper chamber in the 18th Congress.

Previously, the “Duterte bloc” as well as incoming senator Erwin Tulfo claimed that both Escudero and Sotto wanted to talk to them. However, according to Tulfo, he needed to consult with his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, first as they should have a mutual decision over the matter.
Recently, Sen. Migz Zubiri claimed that the ‘veteran bloc’ will support senator-elect Tito Sotto if he vies for the top post in the upper chamber. Based on a report on PhilStar, the ‘veteran bloc’ includes Zubiri, Sotto, Sen. Loren Legarda, and senator-elect Ping Lacson.

According to Zubiri, he is for the leader who will uphold the traditions and integrity of the Senate. He stressed that he does not want a dictatorial kind of leadership where all the instructions come from one person alone.
“I am for a leader of the Senate who will keep protecting the integrity and traditions of the Senate. I don’t want a Senate leader who will be a dictatorial type. I don’t want us to be similar to the other chamber,” the Senator said.
Sen. Migz Zubiri was a Senate President in the 19th Congress but he resigned and was immediately replaced by Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. Based on the report, the Senator admitted his dissatisfaction over the Senate now. He believes that there are a lot of people who are allegedly angry at the chamber following the recent developments.

According to Zubiri, his worry is the possibility that the Senate will be irrelevant in the future and the people will call for it to be abolished. The Senator stressed that once the upper chamber loses relevance, the people may no longer need and want it.
Recently, Sen. Joel Villanueva also spoke his side over the Senate presidency. The Senator is confident that Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero will be able to retain his position as 13 senators allegedly support him.
