Sen. Erwin Tulfo Speaks on Senate Presidency in 20th Congress
ERWIN TULFO – The incoming senator revealed his and his brother Sen. Raffy Tulfo’s vote for the Senate president in the 20th Congress.
Currently, there are several talks over the Senate presidency in the 20th Congress. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously claimed he’s open to lead the upper chamber again in the next Congress. A new set of senators is expected to join the existing lawmakers in the Senate.
Senator-elect Tito Sotto also previously said that he is open to be the Senate president if he has the numbers. According to him, there are people who came to him and convinced him to take the Senate presidency. He was allegedly told that their peers are ready to support him.
Aside from Sotto, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos also claimed there are allegedly senators who want her to be the Senate president. The next leader of the upper chamber will be determined via voting among the senators.
In the 20th Congress, there will be two (2) Tulfos in the Senate. Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo previously claimed he will talk to his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, first over the Senate presidency. He confirmed then that both Sotto and Escudero wanted to talk to him.
Recently, incoming Sen. Erwin Tulfo revealed that he and his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, are among the 13 senators who allegedly support the retention of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero in the position. It was Sen. Joel Villanueva who claimed that 13 senators allegedly support Escudero.
Based on a report on Inquirer, senator-elect Erwin Tulfo claimed that they are the majority so they will vote for the bet of the majority. He stressed that the majority gets the directive to help the Marcos administration. He is one of the winning senators from the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial slate endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos during the 2025 Midterm Elections.
“We’re majority. I am with Alyansa so it’s kind of expected that I’ll be with the majority,” Tulfo said.
Based on the report, senator-elect Erwin Tulfo confirmed the claim of Sen. Joel Villanueva that there are allegedly at least 13 senators already who support Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. Six (6) candidates from the Alyansa won in the 2025 Midterm polls.
