Pres. Bongbong Marcos Appoints Nicolas Torre III as New PNP Chief
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President cited a challenge to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicholas Torre III.
A few weeks ahead of the expiry of the extension of the service of now-former PNP chief Rommel Francisco Marbil, Pres. Marcos has chosen the police official who will be the next leader of the national police. The Chief Executive appointed former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Nicolas Torre III.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos appointing former CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III as the next PNP chief gained different reactions from the people. There are those who support the move while there are also those who question it. Torre was previously intensely bashed for leading the implementation of the arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Five (5) police generals were reported qualified to take the helm of the Philippine National Police. Recently, a change of command ceremony was held at Camp Crame in Quezon City. New PNP chief Nicolas Torre III vowed that the implementation of the laws would be fair and the service would be swift under his command. He also claimed that rewards would be based on merits and “pogi points are not enough”.
Torre also committed to a nationwide implementation of the 3-minute police response program he previously started. According to him, he will make sure that the police are worthy of the trust of the people. He vowed to increase police visibility most especially in areas where safety is a concern.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos was presence at the PNP change of command ceremony in Camp Crame. Based on a report on Inquirer, the President gave a speech at the event and issued a challenge to new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III.
“This is my challenge to you: Keep the ranks of our police officers clean and honorable,” he said.
Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos further challenged new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III to speed up the probe of the cases involving police officers who allegedly violated the law so justice can be served the soonest time possible. He called on Torre to lead 230,000 police force into one that moves “with precision, responds with compassion, and stands as a pillar of accountability”.
According to the President, the police officers must be ready to immediately respond to the needs of the people whenever they are needed. He stressed that the PNP should make the people feel that there are police officers that are ready to protect them at all times.
One of those who reacted in the appointment of Police General Nicolas Torre III as PNP chief is Davao Mayor Baste Duterte. He claimed that his promotion is allegedly based on favor.
