Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle may have infected COVID-19 at the airport or in the plane he boarded going to Manila, according to Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David.
This, as the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Saturday issued Circular 20-61.
As stated in Circular 20-61, Bishop David said that Tagle had tested negative in Rome last September 7 “precisely to be allowed to make the trip to Manila”.
David also said that Cardinal Tagle may have picked up COVID-19 right at the airport or in the airplane, adding that he probably couldn’t avoid being greeted by people, especially overseas Filipino workers, who recognized him inside the plane or at the airport.

In addition, David said that Tagle returned to the Philippines from Rome for “a brief late summer break” and he wanted to visit his elderly parents in Imus, Cavite.
David also encouraged the faithful to pray for Cardinal Tagle’s safety and speedy recovery.
Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David was the acting president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
It was last September 11 when Cardinal Tagle had tested positive for coronavirus disease when he returned to the Philippines, according to a report on Vatican News.
To recall, Cardinal Tagle was the Prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and was also the President of Caritas Internationalis.
