Quezon Congressman Jay-Jay Suarez Speaks on House Speaker Martin Romualdez amid Incoming 20th Congress
MARTIN ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker is poised to remain in his position after 278 congressmen have signed a formal declaration of support for him.
Prior to the 2025 Elections, there were rumors that House Speaker Romualdez will allegedly be replaced in his position to boost the ratings of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, his cousin. Amid the conflict between her and the Marcos-Romualdez clan, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte expressed her belief that taking Romualdez from his position is already irrelevant.

According to the Vice President, “the damage has been done” already on the national budget. She was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5 amid the tenure of House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Following the 2025 Elections, a new set of congressmen will be gathering in the lower chamber. There is a possibility of a change of power every time the Congress transitions.

As for the House Speakership, based on a report on Manila Bulletin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez is poised to retain as the House Speaker of the lower chamber for the next half of the term of his cousin, Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Deputy Speaker Quezon 2nd district Rep. David “Jay-Jay” Suarez claimed that a total of 285 congressmen have expressed their support to the current House Speaker.

According to Suarez, out of 285 congressmen who assured Romualdez of their support, 278 of them have already signed on formal declarations of support for the current House Speaker. Based on the report, the latest batch of supporters of Romualdez include members of the Liberal Party.
“Speaker Romualdez has earned the trust of the current and incoming members of the House through principled, results-oriented leadership. What we are witnessing is no longer just support from traditional allies—it’s a political groundswell cutting across the entire spectrum,” the Quezon 2nd district Representative said.
Based on the report, Deputy Speaker Jay-Jay Suarez claimed that four out or six members of the Liberal Party support the retainment of House Speaker Martin Romualdez in his position. He stressed that these LPs are “now part of the larger movement for legislative continuity and national stability”.
Amid the peak of the 2025 Elections campaign period, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that the government now is allegedly not Marcos but Romualdez and Araneta — seemingly referring to the House Speaker and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
