Nadine Lustre Files Complaint Over Online Harassment, Gains Support from Leila de Lima
NADINE LUSTRE – Actress Nadine Lustre has filed a formal complaint under the Safe Spaces Act in response to ongoing online harassment.
Actress Nadine Lustre has taken a strong stand against persistent online harassment by filing a legal complaint under the Safe Spaces Act. The complaint addresses what she describes as “relentless and malicious attacks” directed at her on social media platforms.
Lustre’s legal move is backed by ML Partylist Representative-elect Leila de Lima, whom she supported during the recent midterm elections. De Lima publicly voiced her full support for the actress in a statement released on May 22.
“We at ML Partylist express full support for Nadine Lustre as she files a complaint for violation of the Safe Spaces Act in response to the relentless and malicious attacks she has endured,” De Lima said.
While specific details of the complaint remain undisclosed, De Lima emphasized the broader significance of Lustre’s action, noting that social media is increasingly being used to stifle voices advocating for justice and reform.
“These platforms are being used to dismantle meaningful discourse and replace it with anger and disinformation,” she explained. “We believe in freedom of expression. But this freedom should not be used against truth, dignity, and democracy.”
De Lima also warned that when expression is fueled by misinformation and personal malice, it becomes dangerous. “Much of what is being said on social media today is not considered an opinion. These are part of a deliberate effort to harass, discredit, and instill fear,” she added.
The former senator, known for her human rights advocacy, called Lustre’s move a “stand for truth and accountability,” asserting that such behavior must be confronted, not ignored.
“Make no mistake: we will push back against this kind of behavior. This is unacceptable. This should not be overlooked,” De Lima affirmed.
She concluded her message with gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much, Nadine, for your courage and determination. With every step you take, the fight for a humane, just, and democratic society grows stronger.”
Lustre’s action is seen by many as a call to protect digital spaces and ensure that they remain safe and respectful for all.
