Netizens Bashed Pasig Candidate Christian Sia over “Joke” on Single Moms
Pasig candidate Christian Sia is ordered disqualified by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division due to his alleged “joke” on single mothers.
A lawyer running for congressman in Pasig City previously earned bashing due to his single mom “joke” on women solo parents. The said congressional bet is Christian “Ian” Sia, a lawyer who is in the field of politics in the city for several years now.

At a campaign rally, Atty. Ian Sia told the crowd that single moms who still have their period and feel lonely may sleep with him once a year. According to him, they just have to have their names listed. Later on, he clarified that he has a wife and it was a joke.

However, many people were disappointed by the remarks of the Pasig bet at the campaign rally. He was bashed on social media and was called “rude” by many people. The Commission on Election assured that they will look into the matter.

The Pasig candidate apologized over his women solo parent “joke”. According to him, not him but the uploader of the viral video must be blamed over the issue. He stressed that the uploader did not include the part when the people allegedly laughed over his joke.
According to Atty. Sia, his message was meant to get the attention of the audience. He claimed that many people have spoken before him and it seems that the people were already bored at the campaign sortie so he found a way to get their attention.
Not only the ordinary individuals reacted to Sia’s “joke” but as well as some famous celebrities. For actress Angelu de Leon, what the Pasig candidate said was allegedly a disrespect on single mothers. Many netizens share the same sentiment stressing that single moms worked hard to raise their children and be both mother and father to their kids.
Recently, the COMELEC Second Division released its decision on the issue involving Pasig candidate Ian Sia over his “single mom joke”. Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, the poll body’s second division ordered the disqualification of the lawyer.
“Candidacy for public office is more than a political endeavor; it is a measure of one’s moral fitness to lead. Candidates are expected to carry themselves with honesty, decency, and a deep respect for others… Public office demands a temperament that unites rather than divides, and a character that respects rather than demeans,” the resolution of the poll body reads.
Based on the report, COMELEC also noted that the “public office demands better, and the people deserve no less”. It stressed that the remarks of Sia were offending the principles to a respectful election. In case the Pasig congressional bet gets the highest vote in the May 2025 Elections, his proclamation will be suspended until the case has come to its full resolution.
Previously, the Pasig election candidate accused Mayor Vico Sotto and his allies on his “joke” catching national attention.
