Sen. Imee Marcos Believes No Due Process in Duterte’s Arrest

IMEE MARCOS – The Senator claimed she has yet to talk to President Bongbong Marcos over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The recent turn of events in the political arena left countless Filipinos confused over the unexpected faction that is happening in the Philippines now. Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is currently detained in the detention facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague while Pres. Bongbong Marcos is faced with accusations over the arrest and the transfer of custody of the his predecessor.

Countless Filipinos did not see the division between the Dutertes and the Marcoses coming. The BBM-Sara tandem was a victorious team during the 2022 Elections. Following the arrest of their patriarch, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte recalled that FPRRD gave a hero’s burial to Marcos Sr. He stressed that they will stand up and fight back.

Malacañang responded to Baste Duterte saying that Marcos already thanked then-Pres. Duterte over the burial of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. According to the Chief Executive, the government only acted on its commitment with the Interpol and the issue was already existing even before he came into the picture.

Following the arrest of former Pres. Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos skipped the BBM-led Alyansa campaign rally in Tacloban. According to her, she cannot accept what was done to Duterte and she wants an investigation over his arrest.

Sen. Marcos led the Senate foreign relations committee’s inquiry into Duterte’s arrest. Based on a report on GMA News, following the hearing that was attended by several government officials and members of the Marcos cabinet, the Senator expressed her belief that there was no legal process in the arrest of Duterte.

“Kayo ang humatol. parang wala, ‘di ba?” Sen. Imee Marcos said.

Based on the report, Sen. Imee Marcos was asked if she has already talked to her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The lawmaker answered in the negative.

“No po,” the Senator said.

Previously, Malacañang spoke on the absence of Sen. Imee Marcos and other Alyansa bets at the rally following Duterte’s arrest. The Palace expressed confusion on whether or not they are allegedly sailing in two rivers.
