PBBM’s Post Thanking Duterte for Marcos Sr.’s Burial Resurfaces

Past Thank-You Message from PBBM to Duterte Goes Viral

THANK YOU! – A social media post by President Bongbong Marcos Jr. (PBBM) expressing gratitude to former President Rodrigo Duterte for allowing the burial of his father, Ferdinand Marcos Sr., at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in 2016 has resurfaced online.

In his post dated November 18, 2016, Marcos Jr. thanked Duterte, the Supreme Court, and their family’s supporters for fulfilling what he called a long-overdue recognition of his father, who had waited 27 years for the honor. He also expressed hope that the event would mark the beginning of true unity among Filipinos.

To recall, Marcos Sr. was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani during Duterte’s presidency, a decision that drew both strong support and opposition. Recently, Duterte’s supporters resurfaced this post, accusing President Marcos Jr. of being ungrateful.

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte also revisited the burial issue, criticizing Marcos Jr. for allegedly repaying his father’s kindness with betrayal.

“My father [Duterte] gave your father [Marcos Sr.] a hero’s burial, but you had my father arrested. You son of a b****,” Baste Duterte said bluntly.

Meanwhile, Duterte was arrested by Philippine authorities on March 12, 2025, and surrendered to the International Criminal Court (ICC) following an arrest warrant issued on March 7. He made his first court appearance via video link on March 14.

Duterte, the former president of the Philippines and ex-mayor of Davao City, faces charges of crimes against humanity, particularly murder, allegedly committed between November 1, 2011, and March 16, 2019, during the country’s war on drugs. The ICC Prosecutor applied for an arrest warrant on February 10, 2025, citing Duterte’s role as an indirect co-perpetrator. He is also accused of leading the Davao Death Squad (DDS), a vigilante group linked to extrajudicial killings. The ICC has scheduled a hearing on September 23, 2025, to confirm the charges against Duterte.
