Vlogging During Class Hours Banned for Teachers by DepEd Zamboanga del Sur

NO VLOGGING – The Zamboanga del Sur School Division has officially banned teachers from recording and vlogging during class hours.

According to a recently issued Division Memorandum, filming during lessons can be disruptive to both teachers and students, affecting their concentration and productivity. The memorandum states that creating and sharing videos while teaching causes unnecessary distractions and negatively impacts the learning environment. Additionally, including students in these recordings raises concerns about privacy, data protection, and their overall well-being.

The policy aligns with several Department of Education (DepEd) regulations, such as the Child Protection Policy, the Prohibition on the Use of Mobile Phones and Pagers During Class Hours, and the Policy Guidelines on the Rationalization of Teachers’ Workload in Public Schools and Payment of Teaching Overload. These guidelines emphasize the importance of maintaining a focused learning environment and safeguarding students’ privacy.

Many netizens have expressed their support for this directive, with some calling for its nationwide implementation. Social media users pointed out that if students are prohibited from using mobile phones during class, teachers should follow the same rule. Others raised concerns about educators who record classroom situations, including moments of frustration with students, and post them online. Some comments highlighted the need for boundaries, stating that making classroom interactions public is inappropriate. Others applauded the decision, saying it upholds professionalism and ensures that teachers remain focused on their primary role—educating students.

The memorandum serves as a reminder that while digital platforms can enhance education, they should not interfere with classroom instruction or compromise students’ rights to privacy. By enforcing this rule, the school division aims to create a more disciplined and professional learning environment where both students and teachers can concentrate without unnecessary distractions.
