John Amores Has a New Career, Teaching Aspiring Basketball Players

JOHN AMORES – Former basketball player John Amores has embarked on a new career, dedicating himself to coaching and mentoring aspiring basketball players.

Former NorthPort cager John Amores has transitioned into a new career path, now dedicating his time and skills to coaching aspiring basketball players. Following his departure from professional basketball, Amores has opened a basketball clinic in Laguna, turning his passion for the sport into a new source of income and fulfillment.

In a recent Facebook post, Amores proudly announced the launch of his basketball camp, inviting young athletes and enthusiasts to join him at the AA Basketball Camp, located at CLA Mall in Pagsanjan, Laguna.

The camp offers various training programs, including fundamental skill development drills, basketball scrimmages, agility training, and physical conditioning. These programs aim to help players enhance their abilities and develop a deeper understanding of the game.

Amores’ shift to coaching comes after a challenging phase in his career. His professional license in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) expired following an incident that led to controversy and legal troubles. In September 2024, Amores and his brother were allegedly involved in a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding in a local basketball league, which escalated into a heated confrontation. As the situation intensified, Amores pursued the individual he had a dispute with, resulting in legal repercussions.

Following the incident, Amores and his brother were able to post bail, but they are still facing charges of attempted homicide. In December 2024, the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) officially revoked his professional license, barring him from competing in the PBA and other professional leagues.

Despite these setbacks, Amores is determined to move forward by channeling his love for basketball into coaching and mentoring young players. His basketball camp serves as a fresh start, allowing him to contribute to the sport in a meaningful way. By sharing his knowledge and experiences, Amores hopes to inspire and develop the next generation of basketball talents, proving that second chances can lead to new and rewarding opportunities.
