Tourist Falls to Death While Taking Selfie on Train
SELFIE – A Russian tourist tragically lost her life after attempting to take a selfie while leaning out of a moving train in Sri Lanka.
According to police reports cited by the Daily Mirror, 53-year-old Olga Perminova was traveling on the Podimanike train from Colombo Fort to Ella. As the train passed between Badulla and Hali Ela stations, she stepped onto the footboard to take a photo of herself. Unfortunately, she struck a rock near a dam, suffered severe head injuries, and fell off the train.
Railway staff at Hali Ela Station quickly provided medical assistance and transported her to Badulla Teaching Hospital. Despite receiving emergency treatment, doctors were unable to save her. Perminova had reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka as part of a group of foreign tourists. Originally from Saratov, she worked for a security company in Moscow.

Authorities continue to remind travelers about the dangers of risky behavior on moving trains. This tragic incident serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of prioritizing safety over capturing the perfect photo.
Aside from moving trains, many places can be extremely dangerous for taking selfies. Cliffs, rooftops, and tall buildings can lead to deadly falls, while rivers, waterfalls, and deep waters increase the risk of drowning. Train tracks, busy roads, and bridges are also unsafe due to fast-moving vehicles and unstable surfaces. Wildlife parks and zoos can be risky too, as animals may react unpredictably.

Other hazardous spots include canyons, construction sites, volcano craters, and geothermal areas, where unstable ground, toxic gases, or extreme heat can cause accidents. Stormy weather, crowded events, fireworks displays, and areas with explosives also pose serious risks. To stay safe, always be aware of your surroundings and prioritize safety over capturing the perfect shot.
