PNP Claims Several Cops in Drug War Left Behind by Duterte amid Former President’s Claim of Taking Full Legal Responsibility
DUTERTE – The Philippine National Police (PNP) claimed that the former President allegedly neglected many cops in the drug war.
Several issues surround the war on drugs of the Duterte administration. In fact, both the Senate and the House of Representatives are currently conducting investigations regarding the drug war. The probe in the upper chamber is led by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee while the House Quad Committee leads the investigation in the lower chamber.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte appeared at the first Senate hearing over the war on drugs. It was Senator Bato dela Rosa who confirmed Duterte’s attendance at the probe. The former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief turned Senator was the first to express an intent to launch a probe on the drug war but was criticized as he’s also one of the accused.
The House Quad Committee has already conducted several hearings over the war on drugs prior to the inquiry where the former President appeared as one of the resource persons. In the previous hearings, the former Chief Executive had different reasons for skipping the probe.
There was an instance when former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was reportedly not feeling well so he did not attend the House Quad Comm hearing. In another instance, the former Chief Executive claimed that going to Metro Manila for the hearing will be costly for him. According to him, he is living within his retirement pay now.
Meanwhile, in the latest hearing of the House Quad Comm, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte surprised a lot of people with his appearance despite his prior pronouncements against the megapanel leaders. At the probe, he claimed that he takes full legal and moral responsibility over his administration’s war on drugs.
However, the Philippine National Police has a different claim. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the PNP said that there are allegedly several cops in the drug war who were neglected by former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The national police even asserted that the “records will not lie”.,
“Karapatan po ng ating dating pangulo sa kaniyang mga pananalita but the records will not lie po,” PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said.
Furthermore, Fajardo said that the data of the PNP will support the claim of its chief, Rommel Francisco Marbil, that several cops on the war on drugs during the Duterte administration were neglected. Based on the report, there were allegedly 312 cops who died, 974 who were wounded, 195 who were dismissed from service, 20 who were jailed, and 214 who are facing charges as per the PNP records.
At the House hearing, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte did not only expressed taking full legal responsibility over his admin’s war on drugs. Duterte also dared the ICC (International Criminal Court) to go to the Philippines and investigate his admin’s campaign.
