Sara Duterte to Make Decision in 2026 on a Presidential Run in 2028
Sara Duterte – The Vice President announced that she will decide in 2026 whether to run for president in the 2028 elections.
In a press conference on November 11, she clarified that the 2028 elections are not currently part of her plans and that she cannot yet confirm her decision to run. She stated that the best time to make this decision would be December 2026.
“Wala pa ‘yan sa mga plano ko,” she said. “I was asked kung tatakbo ba ako sa 2028 and then I answered December 2026 will be the best time to decide kung tatakbo sa 2028,” she added.
Duterte also acknowledged that there will come a time when she will step away from politics. However, for now, she feels the responsibility to serve the over 32 million Filipinos who voted for her in the 2022 elections. Her statement followed her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte’s suggestion that it might be better for her to leave politics and live peacefully.
The vice president emphasized that she believes God’s will will guide her future decisions, including her political plans. This marks her latest comment on the ongoing speculation regarding her political ambitions in 2028, as she continues to focus on her current duties as vice president.
Meanwhile, Sara Duterte is the current Vice President of the Philippines, having assumed office on June 30, 2022. She is the youngest and third female vice president in the country’s history. A lawyer and politician, Sara is the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Before becoming vice president, she served as the Mayor of Davao City from 2016 to 2022 and from 2010 to 2013, making her the first female and youngest mayor of the city. She also served as vice mayor from 2007 to 2010. Sara’s political career includes significant influence in national politics, and she was a key figure during her father’s presidency.
