Camille Villar Says It’s the Children’s Duty to Support Their Aging Parents

Camille Villar Affirms That Supporting Aging Parents is a Responsibility of Children

CAMILLE VILAR – House Rep. Camille Villar said that supporting aging parents is a responsibility of children.

The debate over whether children should be responsible for caring for their aging parents continues to stir discussions online, drawing attention from several public figures. In a recent episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” politician Camille Villar shared her views on the topic, emphasizing the value of mutual care in families.

According to Villar, it is indeed the children’s duty to care for their parents, as an expression of love and respect for the upbringing they received. She stated, “Naniniwala ako na pag bata tayo, siyempre, inaalagaan tayo ng mga magulang natin. Pero dapat both ways, so dapat inaalagaan natin ang isa’t isa.”

This reflects her belief in reciprocal care within families, where parents care for their children early on, and children later provide care in return. Villar also discussed her personal experiences, expressing her commitment to ensuring her own parents, former Senator Manny Villar and former Congresswoman Cynthia Villar, live comfortably.

“Para sa akin, gusto ko komportable ang mama at papa ko tapos hindi sila nahihirapan hanggang ngayon” she shared, stressing the importance of giving back the same level of care she once received.

As a mother to two children, Tristan and Cara, Villar noted how becoming a parent has transformed her outlook. Being the youngest in her family, she was used to being cared for, but motherhood has since become her most treasured role.

“I tried to be a supportive wife. I tried to take care the people around me. Tapos kasi noong bata ako, my whole life, ako ‘yung palaging inaalagaan dahil ako ‘yung baby. Baby ako sa pamilya namin, ako ‘yung pinakabata. Tapos nagulat ako noong naging mom na ako, iyon ‘yung pinaka-favorite part ng buhay ko,” she said.

Villar’s reflections underscore the importance of mutual care in families, reinforcing the idea that this exchange of support strengthens the bond between parents and children and fosters a cycle of love and care.
