Sandro Marcos Defends Father Bongbong Marcos Against Vice President Sara Duterte
SANDRO MARCOS – The Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative publicly addressed Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent remarks about his father, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
On October 18, Duterte stated during a press conference that she wanted to behead Marcos due to an incident involving a student who felt embarrassed at a graduation ceremony. She also claimed she had told Senator Imee Marcos she would throw the body of their father, the late President Marcos Sr., into the West Philippine Sea. Furthermore, Duterte criticized Marcos’s leadership abilities, alleging he had five “impeachable offenses.”
In his statement on October 22, Sandro expressed that he had initially remained silent out of respect for the Vice President’s mandate. However, he could not ignore her threats to exhume a former president and behead an incumbent one. He condemned her comments as insensitive to the dead and cruel to the living, asserting that they were unacceptable.
Sandro emphasized that his father had not retaliated against Duterte and had even advised him to remain silent. He noted that the President had shown restraint and had not made any statements against her tirades, despite Sandro’s disappointment. He remarked that while disagreements can be rationally debated, Duterte’s comments crossed a line.
“But she crossed the line, leaving the civic and civil space in which disagreements can be rationally argued,” he said.
In conclusion, Sandro wished for the Vice President to achieve peace of mind and mental clarity. He highlighted the importance of mental health and expressed hope that Duterte would find the tranquility she seems to be lacking. He reiterated that the success of both the President and the Vice President is crucial for the nation’s well-being, indicating his desire for unity and respect in public discourse.
