Atty. Stephen David, Alice Guo’s Lawyer, Speaks on her Mayoralty Bid Anew
ALICE GUO’S LAWYER – Attorney Stephen David expressed his belief that the people of Bamban must be given a chance to show their support and love for the former Mayor.
The previous statement of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that it cannot refuse the candidacy of former mayor Guo if she decides to run was already met with different reactions. The Comelec stressed that their duty is “ministerial” and they cannot refuse a Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) right away.
Guo is faced with accusations linking her to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in the country but the charges have yet to be decided on. Currently, she is detained in the Pasig City Jail. Amid the Philippine National Police (PNP) assuring the public that there is no special treatment for the former mayor, she is housed in a regular cell that she shares with six (6) inmates.
Aside from the accusations linking Guo to illegal POGOs in the country, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac is also facing questions about her identity. Her fingerprints matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese nation, which suggests that they are the same person.
Currently, there is a pending material misrepresentation complaint against Guo before the Comelec. The poll body assured the public that it will release a decision on the misrepresentation complaint before October 30.
When he announced the mayoralty bid of the former Mayor in Bamban, Alice Guo’s lawyer expressed his belief that the pending petition for the cancellation of the Birth Certificate of Guo and the ruling of the Ombudsman cannot stop the candidacy of the former mayor. It was the Ombudsman that ruled the dismissal of the former mayor from office.
Recently, Alice Guo’s lawyer spoke anew on his client’s alleged decision to run for mayor in Bamban in the 2025 Midterm Elections. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, speaking on Teleradyo Serbisyo, Atty. Stephen David stressed that allegations that his client is not a Filipino have yet to be proven.
The lawyer also expressed that it would be hard to disqualify the former Mayor as per the report. According to him, the people of Bamban must be given the chance to show their love and support for Guo.
“Paano kung siya talaga ang gusto ng tao ‘di ba? Bigyan naman natin ng pagkakataon yung mga tao na ipakita yung suporta at pagmamahal sa kanya,” David said.
Following the statement from the camp of Guo, the Comelec in Bamban said it will accept the CoC of Alice Guo if she decides to run. The poll body even stressed that the decision did not surprise them anymore.
