Imee Marcos Says She’d Rather Campaign Alone for her Reelection Bid
IMEE MARCOS – Senator Imee Marcos stated that she prefers to campaign independently for her reelection next year.
Sen. Imee Marcos expressed gratitude for being part of her brother’s Senate slate for the 2025 mid-term elections but stated she prefers to campaign independently for her reelection.
“I offer my heartfelt gratitude to President Bongbong who, despite the anger and extreme cruelty of some, came to my defense and included me in the alliance,” Imee said, referring to the coalition formed by the President’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the Nationalist People’s Coalition, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, Nacionalista Party (NP), and National Unity Party under the “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
In response, the “Alyansa” reaffirmed its support for Imee, a member of the NP. “Many thanks also to NP and to all my allies who continue to support me, may your trust remain with me,” she added.
She emphasized her decision to campaign alone to avoid putting her brother in a tough situation and to allow her true friends to remain loyal without hesitation. Using a term of endearment for her brother in Ilocano, she said, “As his eldest, I choose to stand free and firm, like him; in believing that there should be no allegiance but to the Filipino people.”
Her statement clarified why she was absent from the official launch of the administration’s senatorial lineup in Pasay City last Thursday. It also appeared to address critics she believes are stirring controversy over her closeness with Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to the report, Senate President Francis Escudero said he would stay out of the Marcos family’s internal matters. “I respect Sen. Marcos’ decision. But I would rather not get in the middle and instead watch from the sidelines,” he said during a radio interview.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III echoed this, saying, “I respect her freedom to association. “It is her right to choose not to be seen publicly with the slate she was included in,” Pimentel said.
Alyansa campaign manager and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, meanwhile, expressed admiration for Imee’s public service, stating that the alliance continues to support her and believes in her ability to serve the Filipino people.
“Our alliance will continue to support Sen. Imee to ensure the success of the legislative agenda of President Bongbong Marcos toward inclusive growth and better future for everyone,” he said.
