Leni Robredo Says Anyone Is Welcome to Visit Her in Naga
LENI ROBREDO – The former vice president addressed her meeting with Vice President Sara Duterte in her hometown of Naga.
On September 20, 2024, during the Peñafrancia Festival, Duterte visited Robredo at her home in Naga City. According to Atty. Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s former spokesperson, Robredo was informed of the visit only shortly before Duterte’s arrival. Their one-hour meeting was described as “personal and not political.” Robredo confirmed the visit, stating that she took the opportunity to meet with Duterte while she was in Naga for the festival.
A statement from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) clarified that Duterte was invited by a friend from Bicol to attend the centennial mass celebrating the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. This same friend also facilitated the informal meeting between the two leaders.
Leni Robredo finally addressed her recent meeting with Sara Duterte in an interview. According to her, anyone is welcome to visit Naga, especially during the Feast of Peñafrancia.
“Walang partido, politically neutral dito lahat, lahat ng pumupunta para kay Ina ay welcome dito sa amin. Mula nung naging mayor ang asawa nung 1988, everytime na may bisita ang Naga na si Ina ang sadya, very much welcome dito sa amin,” she said.
Aside from Sara Duterte, DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos and Sen. Bong Revilla also met with Robredo during their trip to Bicol for the Peñafrancia fiesta.
Meanwhile, former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, a dedicated supporter of Leni Robredo, turned to the microblogging platform X, previously known as Twitter, to express his thoughts on the meeting between the former vice president and the sitting vice president.
“Kung ayaw nya talaga, hindi mangyayari yang meeting na yan. Tsk tsk,” he wrote. He reposted the comment saying: “Ma’am Leni, gusto nga naming ipaimpeach si VP Sara. Tapos binastos pa nyan si Sen. Risa. Bakit mo pa mineet? Are you siding with her? Now, to the diehard pinks, VP Leni should not be beyond criticism. Kahit saan mo tignan, mali ang pakikipagmeeting nya kay Sara.”
