Former Mayor Alice Guo Attends House Hearing for the First Time
ALICE GUO – The former Mayor who claimed that she does not eat hopia insisted at a House hearing that she is a Filipino.
Former Mayor Guo was arrested by the authorities in Indonesia after more than a month that the Philippine authorities were not able to locate her amid a pending arrest order. The Senate cited her for contempt and released an arrest order after she snubbed two (2) hearings set over her alleged involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations.
Guo is accused of involvement in the illegal POGO operations and she is also questioned about her identity. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) found that her fingerprints matched the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national who entered the Philippines in 2003.
Prior to the arrest of the former Mayor in Indonesia, her supposed sister, Shiela Guo, and another person linked to illegal POGO, Cassandra Li Ong, were detained by the Indonesian authorities and sent back to the Philippines.
Shiela Guo claimed that Alice is not her sister. According to her, she, Alice, and Wesley left the Philippines through double transfers among three (3) boats to Malaysia. She is currently detained in the Senate and she had the chance to see Alice in a previous hearing.
Alice and Shiela Guo even hugged each other when they saw each other at the Senate hearing. Cassandra Ong who denied that she is involved in illegal POGO is detained in the House of Representatives. According to her, she is not friends or business partners with the former Bamban Mayor and she just know her because of her boyfriend, Wesley, who is Alice’s brother.
Recently, for the first time, Alice Guo attended a hearing at the House of Representatives. At the inquiry, she insisted that she is a Filipino. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, before Representative Bienvenido Abante started interpellating her, the House member offered her a hopia.
However, Guo declined the offer which prompted Abante to ask why she’s not eating hopia citing that she is allegedly a Chinese. Based on the report, the Congressman also stressed that he is a Filipino but he eats hopia.
“Ako po siguro ‘yung Filipino… hindi po ako kumakain ng hopia,” Guo said.
At the House hearing, former Mayor Alice Guo claimed that her father is a Chinese but her mother is a “natural-born” Filipino which makes her a Filipino. According to her, she always knew that she is a Filipino. Guo also spoke about the Midterm Elections 2025 at the hearing as she was asked.
