MICHAEL YANG – The eldest brother of former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang has been detained at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Yang Jianxin, brother of former presidential adviser Michael Yang, was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Friday, September 20. Michael Yang, who served as an economic adviser to former President Rodrigo Duterte, has been implicated in several scandals, including the Pharmally incident during the COVID-19 pandemic and illegal activities related to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).

Based on a report from Philstar, Jianxin, 54, was detained by the BI and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) upon arriving from Cagayan de Oro on Thursday evening.

According to the report, BI indicated that he is facing deportation for being deemed undesirable and for allegedly misrepresenting himself as a Filipino, as well as for falsifying information about the Securities and Exchange Commission certification of his company, Phil Sanjia Corporation, a steel business he owns.

Employees of Jianxin’s company have filed complaints, claiming it failed to remit their contributions to the Social Security System (SSS), PAG-IBIG, and PhilHealth. Jianxin is also known by the name Antonio Lim, under which he is listed as president of Phil Sanjia Corporation.

The BI confirmed that Jianxin is currently in the custody of the PAOCC. If found guilty, he will be deported and blacklisted, but this will happen only after all his legal matters are resolved.

Additionally, another brother of Michael Yang, Hongjiang Yang, has connections to former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, who is facing multiple legal issues related to her ties with POGOs, including a misrepresentation case.

The Philippine government is dealing with a surge of misrepresentation and immigration cases following Senate investigations into POGOs. Notably, Guo’s fingerprints matched those of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, although she possesses a valid birth certificate from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
