PCO Announces Marcos Executive Order on Increase of Government Workers’ Salaries
MARCOS – The Philippine President issued an order raising the salaries of the government employees and granting them additional allowance.
Undeniably, more and more Filipinos in the Philippines are struggling to meet their daily needs which include food, transportation, the kids’ education, etc. The high inflation rate in the country is significant of the cost of living taking an upward trend.
In most cases, the salary of a worker is divided among many expenses which include the food expenses, the payment of the utility bills in the household, the school fees of the children for parents, and a lot more. As the prices of the basic goods and commodities go higher, the challenge to provide for all the needs in the household become tougher.
Amid the increasing inflation rate in the Philippines, President Bongbong Marcos released an executive order raising the salaries of the employees of the government. Based on a report on GMA News, the said executive order also mandate the grant of additional allowance for the government workers.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) made the announcement regarding the Executive Order No. 64 released by the office of the President. Based on the report, the order was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. It was dated August 2, 2024.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos cited the “prevailing economic circumstances” behind the order to increase the salaries of the workers in the government. He specifically made mention of the declining purchasing power of the Filipino people due to the inflation in the country.
Based on the report, the executive order on the raise of the salaries of the government workers will take effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper with national circulation.
Aside from the high inflation rate in the Philippines for years now, currently, many Filipino families are also struggling to recover from the impacts of Typhoon Carina. The natural calamity which brought heavy rains and strong winds in several areas in the country left countless families homeless.
Typhoon Carina which also intensified the southwest monsoon also damaged livelihoods. The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Social Security System (SSS) has opened its Calamity Loans for its qualified members to assist them in recovering from the natural calamity.
