Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Won’t Run for President in 2028, Baste Duterte Will?
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she learned from her mother that Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte will run for presidency in 2028.
One of the political families in the Philippines is the Duterte. Their patriarch, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, served as the country’s chief executive from 2016 to 2022. In 2022, her daughter, Inday Sara, won the vice presidency.
Under the Marcos administration, Vice Pres. Duterte was appointed as the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd). She was also appointed as the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
However, recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned from being the DepEd Secretary and the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. It triggered the speculations that the Marcoses and the Dutertes are not in good terms. The Vice President did not reveal the reason behind her resignation.
A few days after she resigned from her post, the Vice President revealed that three (3) Dutertes are eyeing a senatorial bid in the 2025 Mid-Term Elections. There will be an election for senator, congressmen, and mayor next year.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, and Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte will run for senator next year. The said announcement surprised a lot of people and gathered different reactions from the public.
There are countless individuals including many Duterte loyalists who expressed support to the possible senatorial bid of the three (3) members of the Duterte family. There are also those who had negative reactions against it citing the existence of political dynasty in the country.
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, in an interview at Cagayan de Oro, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed that she learned about the eyed senatorial bids of her father and brothers from her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman-Duterte. According to her, she also learned that her younger brother, Baste Duterte, is running for the presidency in 2028.
“Ang ingon sa akong mama magdagan ug Senador akong manghod si Baste, sya ang modagan ug President sa 2028,ang ingon sa akong mama mobalik daw ko sa Davao ug mayor,” the Vice President expressed.
