President Rodrigo Duterte is set to give the new quarantine qualifications among different areas in the country this coming Monday, August 17, 2020, according to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
Duterte is slated to whether shift or retain the quarantine qualifications in some areas in the country, a day before the end of the existing Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.
It was on August 4 when Metro Manila as well as Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal have been placed under MECQ which will last until August 18.
President Duterte’s decision came after medical frontliners had asked for Metro Manila to place under ECQ for two weeks in order for them to give time to rest and “recalibrate strategies” against the coronavirus disease.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health announced via its latest bulletin that the Philippines has recorded 4,444 additional cases, 636 new recoveries, and 93 new deaths as of Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
Based on the record of the country’s health department, the Philippines has now a total of 143,749 confirmed cases with 68,997 recoveries and 2,404 deaths.
