GCash Issues Statement Following the Disappearance of Its App from the Google Play Store
GCASH – The mobile payments service has issued a statement following its disappearance from the Google Play Store.
GCash is a mobile wallet and financial services app in the Philippines. It allows users to perform various financial transactions using their mobile phones, such as sending and receiving money, paying bills, buying prepaid load, and even making online purchases.
GCash is operated by Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), a subsidiary of Globe Telecom. The app aims to provide users with a convenient and accessible way to manage their finances digitally, especially for those who may not have access to traditional banking services.
However, it appears that the mobile payments service is nowhere to be found on the Google Play Store; even searching for the app using a direct link yielded no results. Contrastingly, the mobile wallet remains visible and accessible on Apple’s iTunes App Store and Huawei’s AppGallery.
Earlier, the mobile wallet issued an official statement regarding the disappearance of its app. Accordingly, GCash is enhancing certain functionalities on its app specifically for Android users and collaborating closely with Google to reintroduce it on the Play Store. Those interested in downloading the app from the Google Play Store are advised to stay tuned for further announcements.
Existing GCash users can continue utilizing the app with confidence, as their accounts and funds are safeguarded. The GCash application is still accessible on the Apple App Store and the Huawei App Gallery. Caution is advised against downloading the GCash app from untrusted sources.
Before releasing an official statement, the mobile wallet issued warnings about the circulation of fake news to exploit the removal of the app and scam users of the mobile wallet. To recall, a similar incident occurred in April 2019 when GCash was temporarily removed from the app store without any accompanying explanation.
