The pension of a 95-year-old Korean War veteran is frozen
UNCLAIMED PENSION – A 95-year-old Korean War veteran is in need of help because he has not been able to receive his AFP monthly pension since March 2023.
A certain Gabriel Ortigoza took to the social networking site Facebook to share the concern of Lt. Marcelo C. Ortigoza (Ret), a resident of Mlang, North Cotabato. According to Gabriel, Lt. Ortigoza cannot withdraw money from the bank because his savings account at Landbank has been blocked for 9 months already.
Gabriel claims that Marcelo did not receive any advisory letter from the AFP Pension and Gratuity Management Center in Camp Emilio Aguinaldo indicating that his hard-earned monthly pension has been frozen.
His post has generated mixed reactions from netizens. Some offered to help the pensioner in any way they could, while others advised that older pensioners should get updated twice a year; otherwise, the pension would be blocked. The pensioner also needs to submit documents to the PGMC to secure a letter of instruction at Landbank to open his new account. The pensioner may receive his pension for the months his account has been blocked.
Meanwhile, Gabriel said that the AFP PGMC has reached out to him to update the life status of Lt. Marcelo Ortigoza via a video call.
Based on RA 11164, the old-age pension of veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War ranges from PhP 5,000.00 to PhP 20,000.00, provided that they do not receive a pension from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
