Senator Angara and other senators were on home quarantine due to this.
Senators Sonny Angara, Grace Poe, and other senators were currently on home quarantine following the COVID-19 test result of Senate Majority Leader Zubiri.
This, as Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday had tested positive again for COVID-19 before the 5th SONA of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Senator Sonny Angara, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Senator Grace Poe, Senator Joel Villanueva, and Senator Nancy Binay decided to isolate themselves after having close contact with Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri.
In a text message, Angara — who was also a COVID-19 survivor — told ABS-CBN News that they’ll be in quarantine first as they’ll wait for Senator Zubiri’s new test.
Also, Senator Gatchalian — who was about to physically attend Duterte’s 5th SONA — changed his plans about an hour prior to the said event saying that he tested negative for coronavirus disease, yet he decided to cancel his trip since he had lunch together with Senator Zubiri.
In a separate text message, Gatchalian told ABS-CBN News that they had lunch together before the COVID-19 test results were released. He added that he’s under self-quarantine.
Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said that other senators were advised not to be troubled over Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri’s positive COVID-19 test.
According to Sotto, those senators who need to observe and monitor were those who had interacted with Senator Zubiri during their lunch when they had no masks.
Prior to the release of their COVID-19 test results, senators briefly removed their face masks and face shields after the opening session in order for them to take a group photo.
