The extended period for SIM Registration will end tomorrow, July 25, 2023.

The Department of Information and Communication Technology has repeatedly mentioned that there will be no additional extension for the SIM registration which originally started in December 2022 until April 2023.

According to the DICT, users who will fail to register their SIMs on or before the extended deadline will have their SIMs deactivated. Users of deactivated SIMs will not be able to receive incoming calls and make outgoing call.

Deactivated SIMs will also be unable to send or receive text messages either. Aside from this, the remaining load balance in the unregistered SIMs will be “forfeited” as well.

NTC Deputy Commissioner Jon Paulo Salvahan explained that users of unregistered SIMs with digital wallets will not be able to access their accounts.

Having a deactivated SIM means losing access to one’s account since most digital wallets require active mobile phone numbers where they can send the OTP (One-Time Password) or password for security purposes.

Salvahan said that users of unregistered SIMs are “unable to access it (digital wallet) without first registering their SIM card”, adding that digital wallets associated with SIMs will be temporarily deactivated until those are registered.

Meanwhile, the DICT secretary warned that those who sell or give their personal information to other people are among the suspects to be arrested.
