Korea’s Got Talent 2011 finalist Choi Sung Bong passes away at 33
CHOI SUNG BONG – The South Korean singer has passed away at the age of 33. According to a report from the South Korean entertainment portal AllKpop, Sung Bong was found dead in his residence in Seoul, South Korea, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Before his passing, Sung Bong left what appeared to be a su*c*de note, which he uploaded to his YouTube channel. The letter read (according to AllKpop’s English translation), “Hello, this is Choi Sung Bong. The reason I am writing this is to send a letter to my fans for the last time in my life. If you’re able to see this, it means I am already dead.”
Sung Bong also expressed his apologies to those affected by the controversy he was involved in back in 2020. This was after it was revealed that he had lied about having various types of cancer and solicited donations from the public for his alleged treatment.
Sung Bong first gained recognition when he participated in Korea’s Got Talent in 2011. Aside from his singing talent, his story of perseverance in life resonated with the public.
In his earlier years, Sung Bong was abandoned by his parents and taken to an orphanage when he was only three years old. At the age of five, he learned to survive by selling chewing gums and energy drinks on the streets after running away from the orphanage due to alleged mistreatment.
