JOEY DE LEON – The Eat Bulaga host clarified that they are not yet signing off but just taking a day off.
The news of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, popularly known as TVJ, departing from Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.) and their long-standing show “Eat Bulaga” garnered an overwhelming response from Filipinos worldwide.
After an incredible 44-year run, the iconic trio decided to part ways with TAPE Inc., which is owned by the Jalosjos family, due to internal issues surrounding the noontime show. The repercussions of this decision were felt immediately, as the last airing of TVJ was abruptly halted, preventing them from going live on May 31, 2023.
Joey took to Instagram to clarify that they were not retiring but merely taking a break, saying, “We’re not signing off… we are just taking a day off!”
The future of “Eat Bulaga” on GMA Network, its current broadcasting platform, remains uncertain. The show has consistently dominated the noontime ratings for decades, and it remains to be seen whether GMA Network will take action to preserve the program’s success. The contract between TAPE Inc. and GMA Network is set to continue until 2025.
Numerous networks have already expressed interest in acquiring the services of TVJ if they decide to leave TAPE Inc. Meanwhile, the Jalosjos family, owners of TAPE Inc., has yet to make any official statement regarding the issue, leaving fans and industry observers eagerly awaiting their response.
