CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA – The Asia’s Romantic Balladeer recently spoke about his rivalry with fellow singer Erik Santos.

He said in an interview with Boy Abunda that his rivalry with Erik in the music industry is a healthy competition and not a conflict. According to him, he and Erik helped each other become singers by bringing out the best in them.

It’s a great place to be in kasi kahit na rivals kami, and kahit na friends kami, we bring out the best in each other,” he said. “So, pag meron siyang nilabas [na kanta], gusto kong galingan din kasi ginalingan niya. Pag meron [naman] akong nilabas, gusto rin niyang galingan.

Christian also said that their fans benefit the most from their rivalry at the end of the day.

In the same interview, the Asia’s Romantic Balladeer said that he considers the peak of his career in the music industry when even people in Indonesia were singing his song “The Way You Look at Me”.

The singer also looked back on his participation in a singing contest in which he wasn’t the winner at that time.

Honestly noong natanggal ako, I thought it wasn’t for me. Balik na ako sa office or landscape architecture or what. Pero parang na-realize ko, ‘Okay let’s give it another shot’,” he said. “And then nag-audition ako sa isang label and then binigay sa akin ‘yung The Way You Look at Me, the song that changed my life.

He also admitted that there were times in his life when he wanted to stop singing. But when asked to describe his 20-year career in the music industry, it would be with the word “grit”.
