MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto: “Had it gone through the MTRCB, it would never receive an SPG. We would have given that an X rating”

As of this writing, the music video of “MPL” already has 6.4 million video views.

To recall, it was last February 21, 2023 when the Board released a statement about the music video of Toni Fowler and Freshbreed’s “MPL”.

Sotto-Antonio said in a statement that the Board received complaints from the public regarding the vulgar content of the said video over the weekend. According to her, “MPL” didn’t undergo MTRCB review and classification.

She also reminded the viewing public that they may use the report or flag option on online platforms in order to report or flag content they deem inappropriate or offensive to their sensitivities.

In a report on ABS-CBN News, Sotto-Antonio said in an interview with journalists that “MPL” never went through the Board.

Somebody who was part of the video had that the video was rated SPG (Strictly Parental Guidance). They should refrain from saying that because the SPG belongs to the classification system of the MTRCB,” Sotto-Antonio said. “Had it gone through the MTRCB, it would never receive an SPG. We would have given that an X rating.

Sotto-Antonio’s response came after Toni Fowler clarified that her “MPL” music video was actually “restricted” and not intended for a universal audience.

Meanwhile, Sotto-Antonio expressed her gratitude to Senator Francis Tolentino, Senator Grace Poe, and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian for filing separate bills that would amend and expand the mandate of the Board.
