DICT Says First 15 Days Of SIM Registration “A Test Period”
DICT: “Registrations during this period are all valid, but we are already anticipating that there could be some difficulties”
DICT – The Department of Information and Communications Technology said that the first 15 days of SIM registration is a “test period”.
Mobile phone users can start registering their SIMs (subscriber identity modules) today as telecommunications companies or PTEs (public telecommunication entities) are now implementing the Republic Act No. 11934 or the “SIM Registration Act”.
On Tuesday, the DICT said that the 15 days of SIM registration is a “test period”.
DICT Spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo said that they’re “anticipating difficulties” in the first 15 days of SIM registration as the registration process is new to both subscribers and telecommunications companies.
Through the so-called “test period”, Lamentillo said that telecommunications companies may assess what they need to improve their services on in order to make the registration process more efficient.
“The first 15 days starting Dec. 27 is a test period,” Lamentillo said. “This means that registrations during this period are all valid, but we are already anticipating that there could be some difficulties because this process is new to both subscribers and the public telecommunications entities (PTEs).”

Smart Communications and DITO Telecommunity said that their subscribers could go to any of their stores wherein they could be assisted to register their SIM (subscriber identity module).
Up to 160 million e-SIMs and physical SIMs — postpaid and prepaid combined — are expected to be registered.
