Drilon reacts to the hostage-taking of Leila de Lima
FRANKLIN DRILON – The former senator suggested placing Leila de Lima under house arrest after her hostage-taking at Camp Crame.
It was on Sunday, October 9, when a hostage-taking incident involving former Senator Leila de Lima took place at the Camp Crame Custodial Center.
Three detainees identified as Feliciano Sulayao Jr., Arnel Cabintoy, and Idang Susukan earlier tried to escape the facility.
Cabintoy and Susukan ganged up and stabbed a police officer while attempting to flee.
After witnessing the stabbing, another officer shot and killed Cabintoy and Susukan. This prompted Sulayao to storm into De Lima’s cell and held her hostage. He was later shot dead by a police officer.
Following the hostage-taking, Drilon suggested if she could not be allowed to post bail, place her under house arrest instead.
“If she does not grant bail, then maybe she can be allowed detention in her residence. Sa iba di ba hospital detention is allowed. The same here legal issue is where should she be detained? That’s within power and prerogative of judge,” he said.
Drilon also questioned the policy of Camp Crame of placing terrorists near the detention cell of Leila de Lima.
Meanwhile, the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center has been relieved amid the investigation into the hostage-taking of Leila de Lima.
In a press conference, PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said that Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Ramillano has been relieved from his post as facility commander.
