Erwin Tulfo Says 4Ps Beneficiaries No Longer Qualified For DSWD’s Educational Assistance

ERWIN TULFO — The DSWD Secretary said that beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) are no longer qualified to receive the educational assistance for indigent students from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Tulfo said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB that an AICS (Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation) officer told him that 4Ps beneficiaries already receive educational assistance from the DSWD, and therefore, they should no longer be included in those given cash aid until September 24.

He also said that the 4Ps is already for educational purpose, adding that it’s for the children and not for the family.

“‘Yung 4Ps is educational na po ‘yan eh. Hindi para sa pamilya. ‘Yan ay para sa bata,” he said. “Nasa polisiya ‘yan na tumatanggap na sila ng educational assistance. Dapat hindi na sila tumatanggap ng educational assistance mula sa pamahalaan.”

This is, however, in contrast to what the DSWD Secretary said last August 18 that 4Ps beneficiaries are also qualified to receive the financial assistance in light of the opening of classes on August 22.

According to Tulfo, the DSWD central office will open at 7:00 am while the regional, provincial, and satellite offices will open at 8:00 am.

Meanwhile, Tulfo said in a media briefing last Saturday that the DSWD will work with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the distribution of education assistance through local government units (LGUs).

At that time, he said that local government units will assist in the distribution of education assistance starting next week.
