President Bongbong Marcos reiterated his call for the establishment of disease control and virology centers.
PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS — The President pushed anew for the creation of a disease control center and a virology center in the Philippines in order to help improve the healthcare system in the country.
The President graced the 15th Philippine National Health Research System Week held on Thursday at the Grand Ballroom, Marriott Hotel in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
Department of Health (DOH) officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chairperson Prospero de Vera were also present during the said event.
The President, in his message, said that he presented to both Houses of Congress the proposed creation of the Virology Center of the Philippines and the Disease Control Center in the Philippines.
According to the President, he had been in consultation with the Senate and the House of Representatives to create those agencies “so that we can bring them to bear in what we are up to now continuing to have to fight”.
To recall, the House of Representatives in the 18th Congress approved on final reading bills seeking to establish a virology research institute and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the Philippines. However, the bills in the Senate didn’t prosper.
With this, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has refiled a bill seeking to create the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
